One of the best Video-game characters ever written! Ezio Auditore Da Firenze!

Many argue that the new characters of the Assassin’s Creed franchise have more depth than Ezio. That’s just because the players were not given a three series exploration to know the character. All the new characters of AC were quick, and the character arc is evident in the given one, two games. Whereas, Altair and Ezio’s characters were iconic and had more story and many the players have to play many games to get to know about them. We get to know about Altair’s complete story in one of Ezio’s stories (Assassin’s Creed Revelations). Hence, I’d like to claim that Ezio Auditore Da Firenze is one of the best video-game characters ever written.

We see the entire life of Ezio run in front of us. He is born in front of us; we see him struggling to breathe right after he’s born. We witness his father naming him Ezio Auditore. “You are an Auditore, You are a fighter, so fight!” his father says while we press the keys to move infant Ezio’s limbs, we help him fight. We are instantly connected to that infant.

We witness his youth while he fools around ladies, wine, and street fights. He’s ignorant of his family’s allegiance to the Assassin’s Creed. He dreams of various things ignoring the ground realities. He was a handsome young man, blinded by vanity.

The dreamland broke, and harsh realities hit him so hard, and so sudden! He had to witness the execution of his father and brother. He got to know there is a huge thing going on. He finds out his father’s Assassin outfit. He stuck himself into a creed; he doesn’t know the depth of it. He became an assassin, like his father, with no choice of his own. He does it spontaneously. He learns more about the creed and then is officially made an Assassin.

Ceremony of Ezio becoming an Assassin

The revenge-seeking youth matures by time and learns that he should respect the enemy. He understands that he should not put his emotions before his rightful decisions. He made allies, and he fought for justice. He found his enemy, the Knight Templars. He vowed to fight them and stop them from corrupting the world. He studied them, attacked them, and as the revenge is no more, the mature Ezio has learned that revenge gets diluted by the passage of time. He doesn’t seek vengeance. He left his archenemy to live! But the enemy didn’t sit quietly; revenge was taken against Ezio. He has lost almost everything he possessed. He escaped to Roma and witnessed his enemy’s evil intentions.” Ending his reign is not self-beneficiary, but it’s a deed of social justice.” This statement was the conclusion which encouraged Ezio to finish the enemy. He became a master assassin meanwhile. He now leads the creed! From an ignorant youth to a leader of a great cause, his arc has so much depth. He had matured through all the suffering he went through.

Master assassin Ezio, Leading other trainees

Everything is over, and he was not satisfied with his life. He needed something. He started finding meaning in his life through knowledge. He was finding knowledge and found out about an ancient Master assassin, who has spread the creed all over the world, Altair! Ezio was on a treasure hunt to find great knowledge. On the way to knowledge, he found love, and he found out that he was tired battling all his life. He needed leave from all this.

He left with his lady love. He leaves his assassin life behind and starts leading a normal life writing his memoirs. On a trip to his hometown, Firenze (Florence), Ezio recollects all his memories and life. He dies of cardiac arrest sitting on a bench in the middle of Firenze. His last letter to Sofia says out his thoughts about his life. He died without a fight, no battle, and just a normal death, and that was what he wished.

When I was a young man, I had liberty, but I did not see it. I had time, but I did not know it.

And I had love, but I did not feel it.

Many decades would pass before I understood the meaning of all three. And now, the twilight of my life, this understanding has passed into contentment.

Love, liberty, and time: once so disposable, are the fuels that drive me forward.

And love, most especially, mio caro. For you, our children, our brothers and sisters. And for the vast and wonderful world that gave us life, and keeps us guessing.

Endless affection, mia Sofia.

Ezio’s death

And he died! We played him since he was born and we saw him die. We saw an entire life, the choices and the consequences. Can anyone not feel emotional looking at Ezio die, hearing his last words? If you haven’t played the Assassin’s Creed 2 franchise, go play it right now!
